2009
Obituary indicates burial in Union Grove Cemetery; no photograph of headstone
Robert 'Rob' Chesal, Scotchtown Born in 23/07/1930 The family of the late Robert Frank Chesal are deeply saddened to announce his passing. Rob died on Oct. 4, 2009, following a courageous battle with cancer with his loving wife Laura Scheller and son Scott at his bedside. Born July 23, 1930, he was a son of the late John and Ina (Hamilton) Chesal of Scotchtown. He was a member of the congregation at Calvin United Church, New Waterford. Rob worked as a miner in No. 12 colliery for eight years before joining Metropolitan Life as an insurance agent. He later worked with Traders Finance in sales, earning a promotion to manager in Grand Falls, N.L., and later assistant manager in Toronto. In 1973, Rob changed careers following his graduation from Conestoga College in Ontario. He ran his own successful upholstery shop for 30 years, first in Hamilton, Ont., and later in Scotchtown. Rob was a man who enjoyed a good time, especially family get-togethers. He loved to dance, read and cook. He was never happier than when he and Laura would travel the back roads of Cape Breton, picnic in Mira and his morning coffee club with his friends at Tim Hortons, where many world issues were solved over coffee. Rob was honoured by the Scotchtown Volunteer Fire Department, which presented him an award for his unwavering support to the department. He also served on the committee of Stewards at Calvin United Church. Before his illness, Rob loved to help out at the church, from maintenance to serving tea at various functions. Cape Breton Post Published: 22/07/2009 Frank Daix It is with deep sadness, that we, the family of Frank Daix Sr., regret to announce his passing after a courageous battle with cancer. Frank died peacefully at home with his family at his side. Da was born in Scotchtown and resided in New Waterford with his cherished wife of 59 years, Pauline (Faye), formerly of Dominion. Frank was a loyal and devoted father, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed auto mechanics, carpentry, playing guitar, horseshoes and watching a good game of hockey. Frank had a reputation as a tireless worker, building his own house and working as a coal miner for forty years in Glace Bay and New Waterford. Frank began his lifelong friendship with his God, Jehovah in 1957 and was baptized as one of Jehovahs Witnesses in 1962. He fondly remembered pioneer, Frank Pokornicks kindness, patience and encouragement in helping him uncover bible truths. Frank will be remembered for his faithfulness and strength despite much adversity throughout his life. He boldly spoke to all he knew and met about the trust he had in the bibles promises for the future of a time when there would be no more pain, sickness or death (Revelation 21: 3,4). His hope rested in the Resurrection, where he longed to be reunited with his daughter, Emily. Pauline was married in 1950 to her husband of 59 years, Frank, and together they raised their family in 14 yard in New Waterford. Pauline enjoyed planting flowers, cooking for family gatherings, enjoying a good cup of tea and reading. Paulines zealous, determined and inquisitive personality sparked in her desire to get to know her creator, Jehovah God from youth on into her old age. This led her to a lifelong career in sharing bible truths with others. Her happiest moments were when she was preaching the Good News. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses in Glace Bay and New Waterford for 53 years and cherished her privilege of talking about Jehovahs promises for the future. She put her trust in them which was a real strength for her especially in later years. (Isaiah 32:24) And no resident will say, I am sick... Pauline held fast to her hope right to the end and passed away knowing that she had made a wonderful name with God and was safe now in his memory. Pauline was known to her family as Ma, Nanny or Faye and loved each one of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brothers, sisters, and friends immensely. She awaited the time when she could be with them under better conditions through the resurrection hope of life on a paradise earth. (Job 14:14,15) You will call..and I myself will answer you. For the work of your hands you have a yearning. She is survived by her children Mary (Bo) LeBlanc, Marcella (Mike) Bennett, Sandra (Myran) MacNeil, Velvet Scott, Frank Jr. (Dorothy), Gus (Carmen) and Daniel (Marjorie). Sisters Marcella, Belgium, Theresa Billie, Mary Sidie, Lucy, Simone, Adeline, Joanie, Brenda and brothers Albert Brickie and Jimmy. Grandchildren Mark, Michael, Tammy, Frankie, David, Matthew, Josh, Daniel, Richard, Jason, Karlene, and Eugenia. Great-grandchildren Brandon, Felicia, Ryan, Mitchell, Keith, Kelsea, Dax, Kale, Reid and Grayson. Besides her husband Frank, Pauline was also predeceased by her daughter Emily; brothers Clary and Charlie, four sons in infancy and son-in-law Wayne Scott. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 2 p.m. in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovahs Witnesses, Reserve St., Glace Bay. Interment to follow at Union Grove Cemetery, Scotchtown. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, 3183 Plummer Ave., New Waterford, NS, 862-7500. The family would like to thank the special nurses who cared for Pauline during her illness and also Dr. Ritter and Heather Skinner of Palliative Care. Your kindness and care will never be forgotten.
